Lily Yang

Design & Creative Processes Lead

Lily (Scripps ’18), took the Human-Centered Design class (E 180) offered at the Hive and it changed her life forever … Lily has transitioned from being a veteran student staff member (creating podcasts and working on the rebranding of the Hive’s visual communication strategy) to a happy full-timer now experimenting with space/experience design and marketing. She believes in creating spaces and experiences that are welcoming and encourage experimentation/interaction. When she’s not busy getting her Hive on, Lily can be seen eating fruits, doodling in her journal, and going to escape rooms!

<a href="mailto:crystal.orazu@hive.claremont.edu">Crystal Orazu</a>

Crystal Orazu

Post-baccalaureate Associate

Crystal (Pomona ’19), took the Human-Centered Design class (E 180) in the spring of her sophomore year and was set on being involved with the Hive in some way since then. She began working at the Hive in the summer of her sophomore year and continued as a student staffer for two years, where she learned the value of failing fast and hard but inevitably trying again. Now as a full-timer she will be channeling her past experiences and supreme organizational skills into her role as the teaching assistant for the Advanced Topics in Human-Centered Design-Group Independent Study course, as well as keeping up with the Hive website content, calendar, and overall presence in your inboxes, on your screens, and in your hearts.

Contact with questions about reserving Hive spaces and collaborating with the Hive on community events, activities, and projects. In addition, contact for information on incorporating Hive happenings into The Claremont Colleges (and beyond) social media and communication office publications.

<a href="mailto:peri.cuppens@hive.claremont.edu">Peri Cuppens</a>

Peri Cuppens

Post-baccalaureate Associate

Peri (Pitzer ’19), learned about the Hive her senior year when the Pomona-Pitzer soccer team took part in Designing Your Team (DYT), a sports related workshop (modeled after the book, Designing Your Life) led by Fred Leichter and Shannon Randolph. Peri was blown away by the unique and creative approach to team building in the realm of sports. She returned to the Hive in Spring 2019 to take the Human-Centered Design class (E 180) while working as a part-time post-bac helping develop the DYT program further and has since worked with many teams across the 5Cs. Since starting as a full-timer, Peri has enjoyed working alongside her fellow Hive staff members on a number of projects and is excited to see where the year takes her!

<a href="mailto:katy.lewis@hive.claremont.edu">Katy Lewis</a>

Katy Lewis

Post-baccalaureate Associate

Katy (Scripps ’19), worked as a student staffer for the Hive for three years and is thrilled to be a full-timer. She took the Human-Centered Design class (E 180) during her senior spring semester and it affirmed for her how necessary the Hive is as a space to create and fail safely on a college campus. She believes that what we do at the Hive can change people’s lives, how we view learning and creativity, and … the world itself! This year, she’s excited to be working on the Hive’s communications strategy and workshop programming, data analytics, teaching assistant for the fall semester’s Human-Centered Design class, and the unofficially appointed Hive Food Aficionado. When she’s not buzzing around the Hive, you can find her binge-watching Outlander, looking for the best Thai food in LA, and hiking or chilling on beaches.

Contact with questions about or for information on the workshop programming at the Hive, HCD class, Hive Monthly Buzz newsletter, and experience design.
